How to Throw a Spook-tacular Halloween Party for Kids
Are you ready for Halloween? Planning a super fun Halloween Party for Kids can be so much fun, and these party planning tips can help! From food to decor to spooky games, you’ll be set for a kid-friendly Halloween party in no time!
These would be perfect for a fun weekend party at home, or even a bash to throw before heading out the door for trick-or-treating!

You don’t have to use all these tips – they’re just a few ideas that I thought would help get your brain in the spooky-fun mood!
Tailor towards your home and kids and have fun!
Pick a Theme & Set the Mood
- Choose a fun theme (witches, monsters, haunted house, ghosts, etc.).
- Use decorations like cobwebs, paper bats, pumpkins, flickering (battery) candles, and spooky sound effects.
- Dim the lights, add colored bulbs (orange, green, purple), and play background music or eerie sounds.

- Use playful wording (“Come if you dare…”)
- Include costume ideas, time, place, and whether to bring anything (like a treat bag).
- If it’s an online invitation, add a little ghost icon or spiderweb graphic.
Games & Activities (Keep ’Em Moving!)
Here are some favorite party games:
| Game | What You Need | How to Play / Tips |
|---|---|---|
| Mummy Wrap | Rolls of toilet paper | Divide kids into pairs. One wraps the other like a mummy. First fully wrapped “mummy” wins (or best look!). |
| Bobbing for Apples | A large tub of water & apples | Kids try to grab apples with only their teeth (no hands!). Use shallow water so it’s safer. |
| Pin the Hat on the Witch (or “Pin the Eye on the Monster”) | Poster, printables, blindfold, sticky tack | A Halloween twist on “Pin the Tail.” Blindfold, spin, and let them try to place a hat or eye in the right spot. |
| Monster Freeze Dance | Music player | When the music stops, everyone “freezes” in a monster pose. Anyone who moves is out (or does a silly dare). |
| Pumpkin Bowling | Small pumpkins, empty cans or plastic bottles | Use mini-pumpkins as bowling balls to knock down “pins” (cans). |
Tips for smoother game time:
- Have small prizes or treats for every child (so no one feels left out).
- Alternate high-energy games with calmer ones to give kids a breather.
- Be ready with backup games (like Halloween “Simon Says”) in case something wraps up early.
Spooky Snacks & Treats
Kids always love themed food! Ideas:
Would you like to save this?
- Mummy Hot Dogs: Wrap hot dogs in strips of crescent roll dough, bake, and add candy eyes.
- “Witch Broomsticks”: Pretzel sticks with a piece of cheese or fruit leather cut like broom bristles.
- Ghost Bananas & Apple Teeth: Slice bananas in half, add chocolate chip eyes, and use apple slices as “teeth.”
- Monster Popcorn Cups: Popcorn in cups decorated with monster faces (eyes, fangs).
- Halloween Punch: Use fruit juices with floating “eyeball” ice cubes (frozen grapes or melon balls).
Make sure to consider dietary restrictions / allergies.
Costume Parade & Photo Station
- Have a costume show. Let each kid walk, pose, and show off their outfit.
- Set up a photo station with a spooky backdrop, props (witch hats, masks, fake fangs).
- Take group and individual photos. You can even give out printed “certificates” (e.g. “Scariest Costume,” “Funniest Monster,” etc.).
Trick or Treat Bag / Party Favors
- Prepare little goodie bags ahead of time with Halloween candy, stickers, small toys.
- Add something crafty (glow sticks, temporary tattoos, mini puzzles).
- Let kids grab them as they leave — ensures no one goes home empty handed.

Schedule & Flow (Example)
Here’s a sample timeline for a 2-hour party for kids ages 5–10:
- 0–15 min: Arrival & free play / settle in
- 15–30 min: Game 1
- 30–45 min: Snack break
- 45–60 min: Game 2
- 60–75 min: Costume parade + photo time
- 75–90 min: Game 3
- 90–105 min: Final snack / treat, wrap-up
- 105–120 min: Distribute favor bags, goodbyes
Adjust times for your crowd’s energy levels.

Extra Tips for a Great Party
- Prep early: Do what you can ahead (decorate, prep food, label things).
- Helpers: If possible have one or two grown-ups or older kids to assist.
- Flexible plan: Be ready to shift games if kids lose interest or time runs short.
- Safety first: Use battery-operated candles, avoid small choking hazards, and supervise all activities.
- Capture memories: Take videos and photos, or have a “guestbook” kids sign with a thumbprint or sticker.
- Clean up is easier with games: Use washable tablecloths, paper plates, and disposable napkins.
And just in case you need a fun recipe idea, this is a good one for an appetizer for the kids!

Mummy Face Pizzas

Fun ideas! I have 3 grandkids who would love them!
LOL, this is too cool! I’m going to share this with my neighbor, so she’ll be all set for her little who is just at the right age to love it. (It sounds like it looks a little creepy, bu that’s part of the fun!)
Those sound great! And really easy to make!
This would be fun with breadsticks too! Thanks for sharing the recipe!
Take a look through your gnmrdaa’s clothes, if she lets you. It might be cool to dress vintage. If you ask your gnmrdaa very nicely, maybe she’ll help you.Remember there’s always the classic white sheet with holes cut out for eyes. You can be a ghost. Or dress in leotards and body suit, and paint your face and neck and arms and legs white to look like a skeleton. Use glow in the dark paint.
I think it is always better to engage kids in the decoration work, give them some simple projects and guide them through the process. Trust me, they can create amazing stuff, if instructed properly.
Thankyou so much well as we really dont do halloween in Australia ,but my daughter is 11 and now has made invites for 6 friends for games and trick or treat *sigh* You have given me awesome ideas of things to do .Thanks again xxx
