Are cranberries naturally sweeter than raisins?
Nope — it’s actually the opposite. Raisins are naturally sweeter, while cranberries are naturally more sour!
- Raisins (dried grapes) are naturally high in sugar, so they taste quite sweet without anything added.
- Cranberries are very tart and low in natural sugar. That’s why most dried cranberries you see in stores have added sugar or juice concentrate to make them palatable.

How should I store fresh cranberries?
Fresh cranberries keep best when stored cold and dry. Here’s how:
- Refrigerator: Leave them in their original bag or transfer to an airtight container. They’ll last up to 4 weeks in the fridge.
- Freezer: Spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet, freeze, then transfer to a freezer bag. They can last up to a year this way.
- Don’t wash before storing — excess moisture can make them spoil faster. Wash only right before using.
Remember: If they look shriveled, soft, or brown, they’ve passed their prime.
