Why This Works

This activity doesn’t just make cute decorations — it helps kids:

  • Recognize basic shapes and numbers
  • Practice cutting and scissor skills
  • Build age-appropriate fine motor coordination
  • Learn through play and festive theme discussion

This Christmas-themed craft for kids is easy to prepare and is such a fun way for your little ones to learn about shapes, colors, and numbers!

What You’ll Need

Gather these simple supplies before you begin:

  • Printable worksheet (download and print)
  • Crayons or markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Construction paper or cardstock

How to Make the Christmas Tree Shapes Craft

After printing the shapes, have your child color them.

Color the Printable

Let children color each shape on the printable — discuss what each shape is and how it will become part of a tree.

Cut Out the Shapes

After coloring, carefully cut out each shape. For younger kids, you can help with this step.

Hand-drawn numbered circles on a wooden table evoke a whimsical learning activity. A few circles, colored in red and showcasing numbers 3, 4, 5, 8, and 9, resemble ornaments for a Christmas tree. Theres also a partially visible sheet with red scribbles near the top right corner and a hand at the bottom left corner.

Build the Tree

Glue the tree shapes — trunk, branches, and ornaments — onto a piece of construction paper to form a festive tree.

You can even number the ornaments and count them together as you glue — great extra math practice!

Extend the Fun

Once you’ve finished the main activity, try these ideas too:

  • Build a tree from popsicle sticks
  • Make tree shapes from pattern blocks
  • Create salt dough tree ornaments
  • Read holiday books about shapes and tree crafts a little more in-depth; it’s as easy as adding a few more supplies!

This printable works well for preschoolers and early elementary students, typically ages 3–6. Younger children may need assistance with cutting.

Cardstock is recommended for durability, especially if kids are cutting and gluing. Regular paper works fine for single-use activities.
