What are the best toppings for hot cocoa?

As winter temperatures drop, many individuals find themselves seeking comfort in the form of a warm, comforting beverage, such as hot cocoa.

While hot cocoa’s rich, chocolatey taste can stand on its own, adding toppings can elevate a basic cup of cocoa into a decadent treat.

But what toppings are the best for hot cocoa? Commonly used toppings include whipped cream, marshmallows, and chocolate shavings.

However, those looking for a more unique twist to their cocoa can experiment with toppings such as cinnamon, caramel, or even a pinch of sea salt.

Is hot cocoa and hot chocolate the same?

While the two terms are often used interchangeably, there is a subtle difference in their preparation. Hot cocoa typically consists of cocoa powder, sugar, and milk, while hot chocolate is made with packets you buy at the store and a little liquid.

Despite these differences, both beverages offer a comforting and indulgent treat on a chilly evening.

The next time you crave a warm drink at the end of a long day, consider experimenting with hot cocoa or hot chocolate to determine which variation best suits your tastes.
